Motus still glitching: FMCSA promises a fix in "weeks, not months"
FMCSA's deputy administrator admitted the registration system is keeping out more carriers than intended. No date for a full repair.

Key facts
On Oct. 26 at FreightWaves' Broker Compliance Symposium in Chattanooga, FMCSA's deputy administrator said Motus, the new registration system, is running better than its first four to six weeks, which he called "really, really brutal."
He admitted it is still keeping out more people than just the bad actors it was built for. Fixes are promised in "weeks and not months," with no firm date.
Users who are not urgently registering are told to hold off. Urgent cases should go through their insurer and directly to FMCSA. The agency has waived some registration requirements.
Transport Topics reports an FMCSA official at the Oct. 28 WEX OTR Summit saying about 95% of registrations are going through, while the remaining 5% is a problem that keeps people out of the industry.
For brokers: verify MC/DOT and insurance before booking a new carrier instead of waiting for the system to catch up. A new carrier's registration may simply be stuck.
